Congrats to Kaitlyn Farrington for her win at Dew Tour this past weekend on her GNU B-Pro board!

DAY 4:
On the 4th Day of Giving B4BC gave to me…a GNU B-Pro board by Barrett Christy! This is basically THE board to ride considering it sports the Transworld SNOWboarding Good Wood badge AND the Snowboarder Magazine Best of Test seal of approval. And it has a unicorn on it. If you’re not rocking this board, we’re not entirely sure what you’re doing with your life.
GNU’s got you covered for those hard to reach pow freshies too with the B-Pro Splitboard, because we just really, really love pow.
Read the rundown on the GNU B-Pro straight from the source:
This is the board that keeps setting the standard for women’s boards. It’s classic C2BTX / Magne-Traction combination is the perfect balance of camber at each end and Banana Tech between your feet. The camber gives the board end to end stability and pop for big landings, critical lines and aggressive riders while the Banana between your feet makes for great carving on hardpack, ice and easy float in powder and broken variable snow conditions. New this year is LCP for a lightweight, strong, and smooth ride. As the longest running women’s pro-model it has picked up more gold than any other women’s board. It continues to win awards and fans while riding onto the podium of every major event in snowboarding. Don’t put this board into a box, it’s good for everything and our team proves it on big mountains, parks, pipes and everywhere else they take it. Barrett donates a portion of her royalties to Boarding For Breast Cancer.

Today we honor and spotlight “Rad Mom”, Barrett Christy. Barrett has been a force and source of inspiration to many in the world of snowboarding since the early 90’s. She was a member of the first U.S. Snowboarding team during the 1998 Winter Olympics and has won more medals than any other female athlete in the Winter X Games to date.
Today Barrett continues to shred the love amongst the ladies of snow by staying active as GNU Snowboards women’s program manager. Not too mention, her B-Pro signature snowboard line is the one of the best selling women’s board of all-time!
We caught up with Barrett to talk about how she balances work, play, and motherhood…
Where do you reside? Sequim, WA
Mother of (#) Name(s): Cannon (7) Ayla (2)
Current involvement w/ B4BC? I am in charge of the Gnu girls brand, the team and the product line. I have been so fortunate to continue working on the boards, even though I seem to work more than I ride anymore. My pro model continues to be a strong seller and a premium board in the women’s market. Since 2005 I’ve donated royalties from the sale of the B-Pro boards to B4BC. After all of these years why is it still important for you to stay involved? I have a daughter now and I feel it’s even more important to educate and empower young people about a healthy lifestyle and cancer prevention and detection. I have always looked up to Tina Basich and Lisa Hudson, 2 of the B4BC founders and women who I met early on in my snowboarding career. They are strong and graceful and are moms now too, it’s great to support a cause that effects so many generations of girls!
How do you create a healthy active lifestyle for your kids/family at home or on the road? We are always busy, sometimes I don’t know why we do it to ourselves, but we have tried not to compromise our need for activity even with our lives as “grown-ups” now! When there is good snow we try to go snowboarding as much as possible. When there is surf we drag everyone to the beach, we bike and hike and try hard to keep the kids from falling into the couch and whining for tv. The kids both snowboard and love it. It’s so fun being able to ride around the whole mountain with Cannon now.
Has having kids changed your perception on how you live your life? Oh for sure! We feel very lucky to have the life we have. We both have a pretty similar set of priorities and we do our best to balance the work with fun and freedom. I don’t feel like I’m ever ‘training’ for anything with snowboarding anymore, it’s more about having fun with it all. Healthy activities aren’t like a chore that needs to get done, they are what we all need and want! I hope the kids learn to experience everything and keep their minds open to all kinds of adventures.

In honor of Mother’s Day we’d like to spotlight (3) “Rad Moms”—Tina Basich, Megan Pischke, and Barrett Christy—who have all been involved with B4BC since our initiation in 1996. We’ve always looked at these ladies as “Super Women” and now they’re also “Super ‘Rad’ Moms”!
On and off the hill Tina, Barrett, and Megs have been a constant source of inspiration, light, and support to not only us, but to many women worldwide.
Today we’re going to honor “Rad Mom”, Megan Pischke-Porcheron. Megs is a North Face and GNU Snowboard athlete who in recent years has spearheaded our Survivorship Fund ReTreat’s. Married to professional snowboarder, David Carrier Porcheron (DCP)…Megs and family lead an incredibly active lifestyle!
Where do you reside?
Squamish, BC, Canada
Mother of:
Leighli and Reef
Current Involvement with B4BC?
Big supporter, big FAN, BIG LOVE!!
I am also helping to coordinate future upcoming ReTreats for some breast cancer survivors and their family and friends…stay tuned!
After all of these years why is it still important for you to stay involved?
I was (and still am!) so blessed to have such fantastic mentors growing up, I want to give some of that back. And some of the best advice I received was to take charge and initiative of your own life/health, B4BC promotes this everyday to so many young people, and others!
How do you create a healthy active lifestyle for your kids/family at home or on the road?
Well active is easy- my husband and I love the outdoors, and to be outside as much as possible- and we go crazy sitting still (although there is something to be said for being still sometimes!) And we travel to be outdoors, for both work and pleasure. We are blessed to live such a lifestyle, and I would like to think all this in turn “creates” health for our children. We usually travel with Leighli’s bike on road trips, and its great to get her to burn some energy at rest stops on her bike. And its always an adventure where ever we go. Sometimes that means in our backyard of course!
Are your little ones shredding yet?
Leighli has been snowboarding with us since she was two, and now at five cruises the hill, and of course loves pow! She also started surfing this past year, and its really boosted her confidence in swimming by being connected to her board..Im sure Reef will be the same, wanting to be with us on the hill and in the water.
Has having kids changed your perception on how you live your life?
Yes and no…I think that having kids changes your perception regardless, and in the best circumstances the way you live your life, they are such a gift! And its definitely a lot less “me”. Although I learned early on with my first child, that it may be less me time, but oh so important to not becomes something different than when I made this child. I mean, you will always change and shift through life, but deep down there are parts of me I don’t want to change to be something I (or others) think I should be. So making sure that somehow, someway, I still can do my things like yoga, surfing, snowboarding and just plain Megs time (even if that time is after they are all in bed, I am dead tired, and its five minutes before I pass out!). In my world, this is how I can be the best mom. I will admit its really challenging now with two, life can sometimes be one massive scrambled list of organizing and balancing, but I am so thankful for a very supportive family, husband and friends network who all support me to continue to live the life I want to, and very happy the kids are so happy and content just coming along for the ride!

On the 7th day of Steezy, B4BC gave to me…a GNU B Pro snowboard by Barrett Christy!! You won’t find a sweeter ride than this. Our girl Barrett has been fine-tuning this bad girl for over 10 years! It’s the board of choice for many a pro including Jamie Anderson, Kaitlyn Farrington, Maria Debari, and you. Every B Pro is handmade with eco wood cores, and engineered to perfection with C2 Banana Tech and Magne-traction, to accommodate all of your shredding needs. This year’s models feature a super sick psychedelic jungle action scene in four different eye catching colors, designed by Hannah Stouffer. Just carrying one of these around will give you instant street…or snow…cred, let alone how ridiculous awesome you’ll look riding on one. Oh, did I mention these boards give back? Yep. A portion of the purchase of every board goes to B4BC! Now that’s classy. Grab up one of these early so you can enjoy the ride all season long. See the greatness for yourself at GNU!
