hellomellow founder, B4BC supporter and mind body healer Tracy Feldstein created the line with the idea that the skin is the body’s largest organ and must be nurtured with products that aren’t full of toxic chemicals:

“I am so honored to use hellomellow as a way to work with other companies with similar visions and to support my beliefs in ways to heal the world. I am so flattered to  have hellomellow chosen as Boarding 4 Breast Cancer’s affiliate body products line.”  -Tracy Feldstein

PAUSE FOR PREVENTION // Get mellow with hellomellow founder Tracy Feldstein

This week our guest blogger is Tracy Feldstein, founder of organic body care line hellomellow, which donates 5% of all products in their “balance collection” to B4BC’s Survivorship Fund.

The importance of being mellow.

As a massage therapist and body mind therapist, I am constantly reminding people of the importance of being mellow. In my years of experience, what I have learned again and again from my clients and their bodies is: You are in charge of your ability to heal yourself, and of your health.

The key to healing is giving yourself the chance to.

It’s important to find the things that make you mellow and feel good. I suggest to all my clients creating a resource list: a list of things that bring you happiness, make you
smile and create an overall feeling of mellow. This list is your very own, filled with things personal to you. Mine looks something like this (but imagine it as long as the length of the back of my bedroom door):
  • Go on a nature hike with Bailey (my pup)
  • See a movie
  • Paint
  • Play with my niece and nephew
  • Cook with/for friends
  • Get a massage

Once you have your list, use it!
Pick at least one thing a day and do it. Use your list if you are feeling less than your normal self. Use it to encourage yourself and bring you back to feeling good (feeling good/mellow = healing/your body functioning at its healthiest).

An amazing aspect of this list is that you don’t even have to actually do these things. If you are having a stressful day, or a full day where you just can’t seem to make some me time, or if you are under the weather, or undergoing medical treatment, what’s cool about your resources is that all you have to do is think about something on your list and imagine yourself doing it to get a sense of joy or calm or mellow. It doesn’t matter what adjectives you use to describe the feeling these resources give you, what matters is what is happening in your body…It’s called healing.

Massage is a great resource. Take a moment to think about getting a relaxing massage. Do it up, design it…the music, a delicious smelling candle, a soothing aromatherapy oil, do you notice something happening in your body as you imagine it? I call that getting mellow. Not only does massage relax your nervous system and your muscles, it also puts you in touch with how your body feels. It quiets your mind and gives you a great self check in about your physical and mental state.
  • Did you settle in and relax easily?
  • Did your mind wander the entire time?
  • Did you sleep through it?
  • Did your body ache?
  • Could you use more stretching? More sleep?

Massage is a great reminder of where your health is and what you can do on a daily basis to help yourself feel your best.

Anything that makes you mellow, unwinds your nervous system. As your nervous system unwinds, it lets go of stress and the by products of stress which are muscle tension, held breathe, and the all of the toxins that build up in your body from stress. Freeing up your body of this stress allows it to heal itself and for your system to function
at its highest level. Being mellow allows you to heal yourself.

Start now.
Make your list.
Do or imagine something off of it daily.
Let it change and evolve as you do.
Be mellow about your list and your life.

Be healthy and keep it mellow,

Tracy

A look inside the 2012 Ocean ReTreat Yourself

From Sept. 14-16, B4BC hosted the first ever Ocean ReTreat Yourself for 9 breast cancer survivors from the ages of 26-56 in a beautiful, ocean front house in Encinitas, Calif.

Together with B4BC Wellness Ambassador and The North Face sponsored pro snowboarder Megan Pischke Porcheron, we were excited to offer a weekend focused on wellness, meditation, and being active and healthy through yoga, surf, clean organic eating and life skills workshops on achieving balance and staying grounded in our lives. Some survivors were 13 years in remission, others still going through their last rounds of chemotherapy, but all had much to share with each other and B4BC about their experiences.

We were touched by their stories and are so happy that the women felt safe and comfortable about opening up to each other.  Many committed to stay in touch and others realized a new passion in their lives – surfing and yoga!

It was truly a weekend of support, reflection, rejuvenation and fun!   And we are incredibly humbled, inspired and thankful to have been a part of the journey.  A special thank you to Linda Kennoy, Courtney Noble, JP of Surfin Fire and the Flavor Chef Lance for donating your time and talents as well as hellomellow for their all-natural bath and body blend giftbags.  The weekend would not have been possible without the support of The North Face, and we are forever grateful.

Wishing much love and light to you ladies - Allison, Amanda, Cindy, Kimberly, Lorraine, Patti, Ruthe, Sharishta and Vero.  Your strength and courage are a true inspiration to us all!

Namaste,

Erika, Megs, Crystal & Team B4BC

B4BC Survivorship Fund

Boarding For Breast Cancer believes in the restorative powers of the natural world as a means to health & healing.

Since 2009, the B4BC Survivorship Fund connects breast cancer survivors with nature-based health & wellness experiences in order to enhance their path of healing and long-term survivorship.

There are over 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. and that number continues to grow. research has shown that leading a healthy, active lifestyle significantly reduces the chances of initiation and recurrence of breast cancer.

Programs like ReTreat Yourself, hosted by pro-snowboarder and B4BC Ambassador Megan Pischke help women survivors to Reconnect, Reflect, and Restore slopeside at Beaver Creek, CO.

Help support the Survivorship Fund today! Visit our Facebook page for info about how to make a donation, and share with everyone you know!
